LEAGUES 2023

2023 Men’s League

The Monday Morning Men’s League finished our 2023 season on August 28th.  We started the league in May and played 15 consecutive weeks.

Pierre Pomerleau stood with the trophy as the champion Men’s League bowler for 2023.  Congratulations Pierre!

Pierre started our season with 6 consecutive weeks on the winning side and maintained his lead throughout the season.  Often challenged by Bill Mills and Michael Pardaens, Pierre continued to bowl well never relinquishing his top position.

Our final day gathering was a playoff of the top 16 men in the standings.  Pizza and refreshments after the 2nd game.  An exciting 3rd game offered thunder, lightening, and a deluge of rain.

Gopal Gowda was the winning skip of the playoffs.  A combined effort with Sydney Brownstein and Don Huhn (a novice) were the winners of the lead position.  Congratulations to each of them.

Our Men’s League completed a successful season with the enthusiastic participation of 30 men over the months of play.  Many thanks to Pierre for rolling the greens, Bill Mills for setting the rinks, and Chris Jones for maintaining the grass.

So often players would tell me ‘I like this league, it’s a good group of guys’.

Such a fabulous year with more novices joining our fun league.  There is so much to mention and a number of highlights to share.  I hope to do justice to all the wonderful women who came out regularly, and irregularly! to our Wednesday bowling dates.  We can only hope that there will be fewer interruptions next year.

My count over the 5 months that our league operated saw approximately 32 women bowl in our Women’s League.  Thank you one and all.  Summer activities and holidays mean that we can’t always be available and yet when we show up, we have a great time and witness some pretty close games—nail biting to boot!

One new event this year occurred in the last week of our official bowling schedule:  the men’s league (some of) met the women’s league (some of us) on Monday morning Sept. 11th.  It was a fun time and afterwards we sat down for chats over finger foods and tea, etc.  Perhaps we can arrange another such happening next year. See Leagues Wrap up Season .

Our final meeting of the year on Sept. 13th proved fairly well attended.  It is appreciated that not all are able to attend morning bowls.  Nevertheless those that attended said that they had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed the pizza lunch.

Four prize winners were awarded cash prizes (we should look at having our own plaque, like the men!).  Top prize went to Norma and 2nd prize to Dilys, Libby took 3rd prize and the 4th went to Sandy.  Congratulations.  It is always a delight to see the top prizes being earned by different women each year.

Many of our women took part in club and BSI tournaments.  Here are the names, in no particular order, of our league members as far as I am aware:  Alice*, Anita, Barb, Bobbi-Jean*, Brenda, Cathy K., Dilys, Judy A.*, Kim*, Libby*, Lindsey (novice), Nancy*, Norma, Paula*, Rochelle, Renate, Sandy, Susan K. (the * refers to those women who took first prize in their respective tournaments).  Kudos to Paula who was on 2 first prize winning teams. Next year we shall go from strength to strength. See photos: 2023 Tournament Results.

Thank you to everyone for making this year’s Women’s League such a success.  We encourage each other and form such strong bonds that create our combined strength.

ADDITIONAL LEAGUES – A 2023 novice league was held on Friday evenings for new members for several weeks during the months of July and August. Thank you to MaryLynne Rimer and several of the club coaches who attended this league to pass on tips to our new players.
