After a two-year COVID hiatus, it was liberating to renew our annual New Year’s Day celebration. VLBC President Peter Gilchrist served as drawmaster and group photographer for the twenty lawn bowlers who turned out to play, before he joined the group of croqueteers on the lower green.

Bowlers enjoyed three 4-end games, rotating to a new opponent after each round. Both greens were in excellent shape thanks to our devoted Greens Chair Chris Jones.

The event provided an opportunity to connect with fellow members, to commiserate on life’s challenges or exchange travel plans. The fresh air, a few rays of sun and brightly colored outer garb lifted everyone’s spirits.

Most oft-heard comment of the afternoon: “What a great way to start the new year!”
