This year our Games Chair Gopala Gowda introduced a new and successful round robin format for the Men’s and Women’s Singles Tournaments.
The four participating women (Paula Parkinson, Sandy Hodel, Libby Weiser and Sharon Hoffman) completed their three 4-bowl, 10-end games in one day. Libby was the trophy winner, runner-up Paula.
(see additional photos on our tournament winners page here as well as the video links below).
Eight men participated in the men’s competition held over two Sundays, August 8 and 15.
This proved to be a tight competition. Each bowler played seven 4-bowl, 10-end games. After the final game, the top four players had each won five games or 15 points which necessitated using differentials (game points for and against) to narrow down the winners. A new computer program created by Gopal proved to be very helpful in calculating the final rankings, a chore that would have been time consuming if done by hand. Winners were: 1st Brian McColl, 2nd Don Allan, 3rd Nick Geerdink. David Maher came in a close 4th.

A big thank you goes to those who volunteered to mark over the two-day event, one marker per rink per game. No doubt all who participated enjoyed the front row seat to watch the game. The hardest part was not to show favoritism by cheering for the good shots. Also thanks to Gopal, Anita, Jo Ann for organizing the event, Annie and Caroline for arranging lunch and to everyone else that helped make this a fun event.
